One founder, building production AI with agents.
I'm Jacob Basenberg. I build and operate real AI software as one person — AI agents for the engineering, under a written operating system that keeps the output trustworthy.
What Yotta Byte Labs is
A one-person AI lab. We build our own products — starting with Journal Genie, a private, source-grounded AI workspace — and help others build with AI using the same method. The product is the proof. The services teach and apply it. The writing documents it.
A written operating system, not vibes
I build with AI agents under an operating system I actually wrote down — roles, guardrails, and an evidence habit. Three parts hold it together:
- Constitution a written document the agents follow, so the rules don't live only in my head.
- Roles an engineering agent that owns the code; an operations agent that owns everything else.
- Evidence every claim backed by a real command, file, or test. “Done” means proven, not plausible.
Journal Genie runs on this. It's the highest-leverage discipline I have — and it's what I teach and set up for other teams.
What I believe about building with AI
- AI output is only as good as the operating system around it.
- Trust comes from provenance and honesty about limits — not from confidence.
- A very small team can ship and operate real software, if the discipline is built in.
What I'm focused on
June 2026 — building Journal Genie toward its public launch, and writing up how the work actually gets done. I update this when it changes.

The build-log lives at the writing. If you're working on something where the method would help, tell me about it.
